Healing Modalities

Eight complementary practices, each with a quick frame and three to five entry-points. Treat as adjuncts to medical care, not replacements — the warnings at the end of each section apply.

Reiki रेकी

A Japanese hands-on energy practice — "rei" (universal) + "ki" (life force). Practitioners channel ki through their palms to areas of imbalance. Treat as a relaxation aid, not a substitute for medical care.

Where to start

  • Self-Reiki: 20 minutes daily, palms placed lightly on each chakra in sequence.
  • Find a Level-2 attuned practitioner for distance healing.
  • Set an intention before each session; release attachment to specific outcomes.
  • Pair with breath: 4 counts in, 6 counts out, throughout.

Caution: Not a replacement for medical treatment. If pain is acute or persistent, see a doctor.

Meditation ध्यान

The practice of sustained, non-judgmental attention. The Indian tradition lists hundreds of techniques (japa, anapana, trataka, yoga-nidra). Start with one and stay for at least 40 days before switching.

Where to start

  • Anapana: 10 minutes daily, attention on breath at the nostrils.
  • Mantra japa: 108 repetitions of a chosen mantra with a mala.
  • Trataka: candle-flame gazing, 5 minutes, eyes blinking minimally.
  • Yoga-nidra: guided body-scan in shavasana, evenings.

Yoga (Hatha) योग

Physical postures (asana), breath-work (pranayama), and stillness — the eight-limbed path of Patanjali. A daily 30-minute hatha sequence offers more long-term benefit than a weekly 90-minute studio class.

Where to start

  • Surya Namaskar: 5–12 rounds in the morning for full-body warm-up.
  • Pranayama: 5 minutes nadi-shodhana (alternate-nostril) after asana.
  • Hold standing poses (tadasana, virabhadrasana) for 5+ slow breaths each.
  • End every session with shavasana — never skip.

Caution: Avoid inversions during menstruation, high BP, or untreated retinal issues.

Crystal Therapy क्रिस्टल चिकित्सा

Using gemstones and crystals to influence subtle-body energies. Best paired with intention and not worn as decoration. Common chakra associations:

Where to start

  • Amethyst — crown chakra; calms restless mind, supports meditation.
  • Clear quartz — universal amplifier; pair with any intention.
  • Rose quartz — heart chakra; relationships and self-acceptance.
  • Citrine — solar plexus; confidence and abundance.
  • Black tourmaline — root chakra; protection and grounding.

Caution: Never substitute for prescribed jyotish gemstones (ruby, emerald, etc.) without consulting an astrologer.

Color Therapy वर्ण चिकित्सा

Colours carry vibrational frequencies that influence mood, energy, and the chakras. Apply via clothing, wall paint, food, or sun-charged water.

Where to start

  • Red — root; vitality, courage. Wear on Tuesdays.
  • Orange — sacral; creativity, sensuality.
  • Yellow — solar plexus; clarity, digestion, Mercury.
  • Green — heart; healing, growth.
  • Blue — throat; communication, expression.
  • Indigo — third-eye; intuition.
  • Violet — crown; transcendence.

Acupressure अंगुली दबाव

Manual pressure on specific points along the body's energy meridians. Originally Chinese (paired with acupuncture), the Indian marma tradition is closely related.

Where to start

  • LI4 (Hegu) — webbing between thumb and index — headaches.
  • PC6 (Neiguan) — three finger-widths above wrist crease — nausea.
  • GV20 (Baihui) — crown of the head — focus, mental clarity.
  • K1 (Yongquan) — sole of foot, just below the ball — grounding, insomnia.

Caution: Avoid during pregnancy — some points (SP6, LI4) can induce labour.

Aromatherapy सुगंध चिकित्सा

Essential oils inhaled or applied (diluted) to influence mood and physiology. Aligned with the chakra system through the limbic brain's response to scent.

Where to start

  • Lavender — calming, sleep. Diffuse 2 hours before bed.
  • Frankincense — meditation, deepens breath. Burn during sadhana.
  • Sandalwood — heart and root; grounding focus. Apply diluted to wrist.
  • Peppermint — alertness, headache relief. Inhale from the bottle, do not apply near eyes.
  • Tulsi (holy basil) — purification; the most Indic of the oils.

Caution: Always dilute essential oils (1–3% in carrier oil) before skin contact. Avoid during early pregnancy without a qualified practitioner.

Ayurveda आयुर्वेद

India's classical medical system — over 3,000 years old. Health is the dynamic balance of three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) shaped by constitution (prakriti), season, time of day, and digestion (agni).

Where to start

  • Wake before sunrise (Vata time, ~5 AM); sleep before 10 PM.
  • Eat your largest meal at noon (Pitta time) when agni is strongest.
  • Tongue-scraping and warm-water sipping on waking.
  • Self-massage (abhyanga) with sesame oil before bath, 2–3 times a week.
  • Know your prakriti — Vata bodies stay warm; Pitta bodies stay cool; Kapha bodies stay moving.

Caution: Consult a registered Vaidya before taking any classical Ayurvedic formulation, especially metals (bhasmas) and strong herbs.
